Collection Research

I researched what type of knits GUCCI has used in their collections and what colours they mostly used for which season. Based off this information we were able to look at the similarities and differences and see how GUCCI creates a cohesive collection per season.

Concept board & Toolbox

The concept took inspiration from 1975 - 1985 era. The main question being, how did we look at the future 50 years ago and how can we keep that same feeling in a collection with a modern twist?

We used design elements from that era and combined it with design styles from when Tom Ford was still creative director at GUCCI.

Design Process

For the pants I was mostly inspired by 70’s bell bottoms, flared pants. I combined this with the toolbox elements, adding a zipper that goes all the way down the crotch.

The pleats in the pants have a transparent panel, when you walk you can see it move beautifully. This still gave me the feeling of that kind of flowy/organic clothing, while still fitting into the concept.

I wanted the dress to be the main attraction of the looks. I wanted it to have drame and I wanted it to be sexy.

Here I really experimented with fitted silhouettes and how the cutouts would influence the drape of the garment. It was really challenging to work with the fake leather, because it was so thin and stretchy, but I did learn a lot from it.

For the knitted top I wanted to bring back the metallic that the rest of the outfit was missing. So I did many different trials and ended up choosing a laddering technique in combination with a purple and silver yarn. Because I used 2 yarns at once, it created some unexpected lines in the knit, but I ended up really liking it and made the top seem more dimensional as well.
