VEILED PUTREFACTION

A Gothic-inspired textile collection.

‘’How would the incorporation of contemporary Gothic aesthetics, inspired by the subculture, influence the architectural design and textile elements of a classic Gothic church?’’

The Essence of the Textile Collection: Veiled Putrefaction

While researching, I utilized curtain swatches from GAMMA’s discontinued product line. These unique fabrics, no longer in production, contribute to a limited-edition textile collection. My collection promotes sustainability and environmental responsibility by repurposing these old curtain swatches.

This collection is a story. A story about the Earth’s downfall, due to environmental degradation: the protagonist, Crimson, is trying to save the Earth, will they succeed?

Laser Engraving

A very important part of this collection was to embrace all the aspects that make a Gothic church so special. I recreated the textures of the walls, floors, ceilings, windows, painting by engraving them into fabrics. Bringing the images I gathered from the church to life in a textile.

By using laser cutting I could play around with light coming through the fabric swatches, embodying how Gothic churches were designed to ‘Bring light into people’s lives'.
