LYRICAL SIRENS

A Digital and Physical fashion collection.

Using the words of this generation's female songwriters, our lyrical sirens, I have created a collection that visualizes their complex songwriting into fashion. Their words have been transformed into a Lyrical Lace and AI-generated print.

Moodboard

A fashion collection inspired by Werner Herzog’s quote ‘‘I am fascinated by the non-spoken, by the world that exists beneath our words.’’ It immediately made me think about the female musicians that I listen to daily, the way they can paint an imaginary world with just their words fascinates me. They are so open and vulnerable in their songs, it’s like I am reading their diaries while the words are sung to me in a beautiful voice and melody. This inspired me to make a collection based on the vulnerability these songwriters use with their words.

Songtexts

The first step for me was to get a good understanding of what the songwriters were trying to say with their lyrics, so I analysed them first and looked for similarities and themes. The main theme I noticed in the songs was water, so I decided to continue with the inspiration behind that. After I analysed the lyrics I would take the lyrics and put them into a word-to-image AI generator and it would give me these images I could turn into prints.

Line-up

The silhouettes of the outfits are inspired by Goth/Lolita fashion, and by the feel I would get for each song. I wanted to find an interesting way to incorporate the water theme, with the lyrical lace and with the silhouette.

Digital Process

To create the digital looks of this collection I had to use a lot of different programs to get to the end product. In this video I showed how I used these programs to get to the end product. Seen are: Adobe Illustrator, CLO3D, Blender and Substance painter.
